The reason why I made this blog goes two ways.
1. I like the idea of social media, of sharing thoughts and experiences with the world, but I hate the platforms we have. It’s not just the doomscrolling and the flood of ads we are bombarded with every time we open our app of choice, it’s also the fact that the entire setup of most social media platforms is created to promote comparison, judgement and patriarchal oppression. It pushes the posts and accounts of smart sounding men and conventionally beautiful women, and hides everyone else. The algorithms, capitalism and the patriarchy are the actual influencers. Gross, honestly.
So, how can I share my thoughts with the world on my own terms? Blogging. I don’t really expect a lot of people to read it (or anyone, really), but that’s okay. This is my space and I enjoy my own company.
2. I’ve been journaling on and off over the last decade or so and have been wanting to get back into it after a pretty long lull, but I’ve been thinking about why I want to journal at this point. And my main reason is that I want to write. I enjoy writing, even if severe executive dysfunction is a pain in the butt and getting myself to sit down and actually do the thing is hard at times. (This goes for all the things.. ugh.) And since my journaling is rarely super super personal (or maybe I just lack boundaries, who knows), I decided to just journal publicly.
This blog will probably be a bunch of different things. I don’t want separate spaces for personal thoughts, cat pictures, angry rants, book reviews, activism, creative writing etc. to shape a “brand” because all those things are part of me and – to quote legendary drag artist Miss Fame – I am the brand. (lol)
