It is 1 January 2026. All of the news I have seen today were about the death and destruction caused by fireworks and explosives. The rest of social media is mostly the kind of defeated cynicism millennials are so good at.
We are tired. I am tired. We are tired of even pretending that a new year will bring better times. Maybe this step away from fake inspiration and sparkling resolutions we know we won’t be keeping up with for more than a couple of weeks, is just what we need to step closer together without pretence and take action. Capitalism, social media and pretty facades have lost their magic.
And I think that is a good thing. We need that realism to see what needs to change and to see our own power in this system.
